Before the season began this year. The Royals and The Sabers squared off in an exhibition game full of hits, goals, saves and most of all trash talking making their first meeting of the season well anticipated. Second Period: The Royals get on the board first after Zach absolutely snipes a shot from the slot on the powerplay after a great pass from Shane and Connor. Third Period: Sabers score two more goals and beat the Royals 5-2. Key Points: The Sabers scored five unanswered goals in 1 and a half periods. Areas for Improvement: Don't focus on the refs as well less odd men breaks against s therefore the defence to to pinch down a little less often. Three Stars: Shane, Cody W. and Blaise

Royal lose a tough one to the Lazers

last year the Royals won both season games against the Lazers as well as eliminating them from the playoffs, this year however, things maybe different. First Period: Dakota gets a two goal lead of of two power play goals caused by unnecessary penalties to go up 2-0.Second Period: Derrick riffles one past the Dakota goalie to make it a one goal game but off the next faceoff Dakota stormed down the ice to score two more goals and make it 4-1. As the period was just about to end the Royals score but it 's immediately waved off for a high stick call that did not sit well , with players, coach and fans. Third Period: Alex makes it a two goal game again when he snuck the puck past the goalie on his short side after an up ice pass from Jordan. Dakota scored once more before the game end, sneaking one over Brandon's shoulder to cement the 5-2 win and handing the Royals their first lose. Key Points: The defence scored all the goals! Areas for Improvement: Less penalties, forwards need to create more scoring chances by getting back to the basics, using your teammates and not trying to over complicate thing. Royals go to 3-0 on the season by striking seven goals again!

Over the past couple of years The Fort Gary Flyers and the River East Royals have had a great rivalry. Last year Fort Gary won the rivalry winning 2 out of the 3 games against the Royals. This year the Royals plan to turn it around. First Period. Fort Gary strikes first on a breakaway after dodging a poke check. Second Period. Cody w. buries the first goal for the Royals on the night and his goal as a River East Royal after a great end to end rush by Connor. Just over a minute after that Joel scores a rebound goal on he power play after the point shot from Matt and the pass from Connor. 30 seconds later Devan snipes power play goal for the Royals after a pass from Matt. The Flyers cut the lead down to one after another breakaway goal but the Cody P. answers back by sliding a softy pass the Flyers goalie to make it a 4-2 hockey game. Third Period. Flyers scores right as their power play ran out, on a screened shot making it a one goal game. However, Devan scores his second goal on the night on a great shot assisted by Shane to regain the two goal lead. Just over half way through the period Derrick scores an unassisted goal and Zach scores a power play rebound goal assisted by Connor and Devan to give the Royals the 7-3 victory and 3-0 record to start the season. Key points: The power play unit was unbelievable tonight and mainly because of the great passing executed by every player on the ice. As well, penalty kill was perfect again by not allowing any power play goals for the Flyers. Areas for Improvement. Just remember to watch the offsides, we got called a little to often as well, breakaway, preventing shots and stopping goals could be worked on by the defensive part of the team (goalie(s) stopping and defence preventing). Three Stars: Connor, Devan, Matt

Royals light the lamp against the Seven Oaks Flames

Before the game there was a lot of talk about how the Seven Oaks team was going to be great just because they came down to A1. But the Royals did not back down. Period 1: The flames score the first goal twenty seconds into the game. The Royals answer back after Blaise slips one by the goalie from outside the blue line with the leading pass from Derrick and Trent. Shortly after, Derrick scores a goal from the point after a great faceoff win from Jordan. Period 2: Joel opens up the scoring for the Royals in the second after burying a rebound set up by Jordan and Kyle. But the flames answer back with a quick shot on the slow side on Brandon, cutting the Royals lead to two. Jordan ups the lead back to three after tucking in the rebound created by Derrick and Alex. 5-2 Royals! Third period. Zach makes it a four goal lead after burying the puck top self thanks to passes from Shane and Derrick. Shorty after Alex scores a quick one timer from the point on the power play after a draw win from Blaise and passed over by Cody P. On the very next power play Joel scores a breakaway goal by slipping the puck through the goaltenders five-hole, the lead pass for the breakaway was given by Jordan. Brandon stood strong in the third period allowing no goals past him and covering up every loose puck that he could backstopping the Royals to a 7-2 win. Key points: Once the Royals noticed the Seven Oaks Flames were a slower team, they turned up the speed and started sprinting down the ice.The flames couldn't stop them and lost because of it. Areas for Improvement: Neutral Zone positioning and passing could be improved. Three Stars: Derrick, Jordan, Cody W.
